- 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend for optimal juiciness
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 sesame seed buns
- 4 slices American cheese
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/4 cup sliced pickles
- 1/4 cup sliced onions
- 4 tomato slices
Prepare the Patties:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Gently mix to distribute the seasonings evenly without overworking the meat.
Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns, as they will shrink while cooking.
Grill the Patties:
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a stovetop, heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, flipping only once to maintain juiciness. Ensure they reach an internal temperature of 160°F for safe consumption.
For that signature smoky flavor, consider adding a handful of soaked wood chips to the grill.
Assemble the Burger:
Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise on the bottom bun.
Layer with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and onions.
Place the hot, freshly grilled patty on top and immediately add a slice of American cheese to melt slightly.
Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun before closing the burger.
-
For best results, use freshly ground beef.
-
If grilling isn’t an option, a cast-iron skillet can replicate the effect.
-
Customize with toppings like bacon, jalapeños, or special sauces for a unique twist.
